Original Post: Spring 2006 Serving Our Community Since 1992
The Oak Creek Police Department welcomed its newest K-9 officer on May 15, 2006. “Bronco” and his handler, Officer Mike Musa, returned from six weeks of K-9 training in North Carolina. He replaced K-9 “Ringo”, who was officially retired after eight years of diligent service to the community. “Bronco” is a male, Belgian Malanios/German Shepard trained as a patrol/narcotics canine. Officer Musa and “Bronco” will be used daily in a patrol capacity. In addition, “Bronco” will be utilized for suspect apprehension and tracking, clearing buildings, evidence searches, narcotics detection, controlling large groups of people, and subduing hostile or violent individuals. Officer Musa and “Bronco” join the Department’s current K-9 team of Officer Paul Hernon and K-9 “Kuno”.
The officer/K-9 teams are also available for demonstrations. OCPD’s K-9 unit gives numerous demonstrations throughout the year. If your group is interested in a demonstration contact the Community Resource Bureau – 766-7624 or the K-9 Unit Supervisor – Sgt. Steven York – 766-7641. Retired K-9 Officers
“Bear” was officially retired after seven years of diligent service to our community on May 18, 2005. The Common Council of Oak Creek approved the retirement and concurred with the Transfer of Ownership Agreement which conveys ownership of “Bear” to his handler - Officer Brett Mendola. With the best years of fighting crime behind him, K-9 “Bear” was 10 years of age at retirement. Officer Mendola has agreed to accept the responsibility for any and all future needs, including medical, of his retired partner “Bear”. We thank Officer Mendola and “Bear”, for their dedication and service.
K-9 "Ringo" officially retired after eight years of diligent service to the community in December of 2005. K-9 "Ringo" began service to the City of Oak Creek in May of 1997 and was 10 years of age at the time of his retirement. |
