Message from the Mayor:
Oak Creek’s annual National Night Out celebration is coming up next Tuesday, August 7th, from 6-9pm at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howell Avenue. Promoting safety in the community, this event also features a grand prize drawing of a 51 inch high-definition television, sponsored by American TV. Enter the “Passport to Safety” drawing to win other prizes. A local children’s theater will perform, and there will be plenty of great food and activities for the whole family. Join us for one of the largest community events of the year.
Jill Lininger, Library Director at the Oak Creek Public Library, asked me to pass on a link to a quick survey to find out how we can improve our library services. Please take a few moments of your time to let us know how you use the library, and what you would like to see in the future. With a new building at Drexel Town Square scheduled for completion in 2014, now is your chance to help with the design of our new library for the next generations of Oak Creek residents. As I’ve said in previous weeks, I’m looking for Oak Creek area health & fitness clubs, health professionals, local clinics, and area hospitals to help with a city-wide initiative aimed at one goal, better health and wellness for all our residents. Our common goal is to see how many pounds we can lose as a community, and in the process, learn about wellness techniques and fitness regimens to keep us fit, and to do it in a fun, all-inclusive manner. We’ll reach out to local and national media to promote our efforts, and our hope is that other communities are willing to compete along with us. Oak Creek is a city of nearly 35,000 people…how much weight can we lose? If you would like to be involved with a committee to set up fitness training sessions, or wellness and nutritional seminars, please contact me at 414.335.6330 or at sscaffidi@oakcreekwi.org.
We’ve added a new feature to our city website, “Meet our Staff”. Each month we’ll profile a City of Oak Creek employee who’s making an impact in our community, so that residents can see the faces behind some of the great work being done in and around our city. This month’s edition features Oak Creek Fire Department Lieutenant Jerry Biggart.
Our social media communication efforts took another important step forward this week with the launch of our own twitter account. For quick updates and news on events and happenings in the community, follow us at @CityofOakCreek. This week we’ll be promoting a facebook contest featuring great Oak Creek merchandise giveaways. Stay connected to our city facebook and twitter postings for details on how to win!
Packers training camp opened up this past week, fall is right around the corner!
