City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date: February 5, 2013

Item No.:

Recommendation:  That the Common Council approve the bid from American Signal Corporation in the amount of $73,854 for the replacement of two warning sirens located at the Little League Complex at 7800 South 6th Street and behind Lakeside Credit Union at 150 W. Ryan Road.

Background:  This is the second phase of the upgrade program approved during the budget process to replace our aging warning sirens.   The siren located at 2651 East Ryan was replaced in 2012. The sirens are approximately 20 years old and the unavailability of parts and narrowbanding technology has made them obsolete.

These sirens serve as a vital part to our warning efforts during severe storms and other emergencies deemed appropriate for activation.

Fiscal Impact:   The cost of the project is $73,854 which includes removal of the old sirens and installation of the new equipment.  The funds would come from Fund 19, the We Energies Mitigation Fund, as stipulated during the 2013 budget process.
