The Mayors' Fitness Challenge has a new twist this year. We've invited five of our south-suburban neighbors (St. Francis, Cudahy, South Milwaukee, Franklin and Greenfield) to enlarge the efforts to get our communities moving and to get fit! We kicked off this year's Challenge at East Middle School on Saturday, September 20th, with more than twenty fitness and health professionals partnering with us this year. I was joined by the other mayors at the event, and Mayor Erik Brooks of South Milwaukee has personally challenged the other mayors to a friendly competition for total percentage of weight loss during the Challenge period which runs September 20-January 31, 2015. Losing mayors have to wear the football jersey of the winning mayor's city. I look forward to seeing the OC colors being worn by the other mayors in February!

Our Landscape and Beautification committee has selected the 2014 residential landscape winners and we will begin notifications this week. There were some incredible nominations this year and one of the winners was nominated by five different people! We'll invite the winners to the October 2nd Common Council meeting where they will receive their lawn signs, Landscape Awards and a gift certificate from Tehan's Nursery in Oak Creek. Serving with me on the Beautification and Landscape Committee are Jeff Wendt, Glen Kulas, Deb and Dave Chvilicek, Alderman Chris Guzikowski, Steve Bautch, City Forester Rebecca Lane, and Sharon and Tim Tehan. Each of our nominated properties will get a letter informing them of their nomination. Thanks to all of the nominated residents for the great job you do in making our city look even better and more beautiful!

It's Homecoming week at Oak Creek High School. Events are happening every day at OCHS, featuring  the Homecoming parade on Wednesday night taking place around the high school block (Groveland to Knights to Puetz), with the Powder Puff game to follow at Knights Stadium. On Friday night the Oak Creek Boys football team takes on Kenosha Tremper, with our fantastic Marching Knights band putting on a half-time show featuring great songs from "The Sound of Music."  Join your fellow residents and Oak Creek High School alumni as they celebrate Homecoming Week 2014.

Enjoy the weather as we transition to the spectacular color and cool nights of fall in Wisconsin!
